The Food Enterprise Center in Viroqua, WI
- The Food Enterprise Center in Viroqua, WI is a 100,000 sq. ft. renovated manufacturing facility that is now a multi-tenant food aggregation, processing and distribution center, owned & managed by Vernon Economic Development Association. CHS fits well into this facility, where it receives, stores and ships bulk produce to local food pantries and regional food banks.
CHS Partnership With The Food Enterprise Center
- CHS utilizes the infrastructure of Vernon Economic Development Association’s centrally located food hub to serve local meal sites, food pantries, and regional food banks — by connecting with local farmers, providing in-kind labor through volunteers, and by employing workers with varying abilities.
Sorting, Processing & Delivery
- CHS establishes the coordination to source fresh produce such as apples, squash, peppers, beets and cabbage directly from at least 40 local farms and has them brought to the Food Enterprise Center. There they are weighed, sorted, refrigerated and later staged for pickup on the loading dock by trucks from Second Harvest Food Bank, Hunger Task Force and other food banks to distribute to food pantries in 18 counties in Southwest Wisconsin.
